ABOUT MICHAEL
Originally from Lakeland, Florida, Michael Shipps began his musical journey with viola lessons in the first grade before ultimately finding his voice on the French horn. Michael earned his Bachelor of Music in Performance from SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music, where he studied with Dr. Lauren Becker. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree here at Lynn in the studio of Gregory Miller.
Michael has performed with ensembles such as the Orchestra of Northern New York, Northern Symphonic Winds, and the Mostly Modern Orchestra. He has participated in master classes with renowned artists including David Cooper and Wei-Ping Chou. His festival experience includes being a fellow in the 2024 Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival and a member of the Mostly Modern Festival and Orchestra in 2025.
Outside of music, Michael enjoys cooking, playing golf, and working out.
