This event takes place in Unity Temple's Sanctuary and includes a conversation between authors.

Doors Open - Event doors open at 6:00 p.m. While you may queue outside the venue, no access to the event space will be granted ahead of this time. If you have any accessibility concerns that preclude you from standing in line, please reach out to [email protected] to arrange a separate entry.

Signed Books & Personalization - Event books will be PRE-SIGNED, and you will receive your pre-signed book upon check-in. There will be an optional personalization line, with photos allowed, following the author conversation. Attendees may get only one book personalized. There is no separate ticket needed for this line. Access to the personalization line will be split into numbered groups, and your group number is first-come, first-served based on when you check-into the event. We hope to get through all attendees who choose to wait, but we will need to complete personalization by 11 p.m. Signing details are subject to change depending on author and publisher needs.

Please read through the ticket options carefully if you have any concerns. You may also reach out to [email protected] for one of our staff members to personally assist you with your ADA needs or arrange for early entry.

The Book

Big Fan: Two Friends, 82,490 Miles, and the Wild, Wonderful Sports We Love

New York Times bestselling authors Mike Schur and Joe Posnanski travel the world in a hilarious and heartwarming celebration of fans and the things they love: baseball, basketball, chess, darts, football, futbol, Indigenous North American stickball, pickleball, WWE, Taylor Swift, Star Wars, and more.

Two great friends. Lots of frequent flyer miles. And a bottomless appetite for experiencing sports. That’s what BIG FAN is all about.

Bestselling authors and podcast hosts Joe Posnanski and Mike Schur love games—almost any game!—and they bring readers to the front row (and sometimes even right onto the field). Whether ringside at WrestleMania in Las Vegas, singing along with the maniacs at the World Darts Championships in London, or just watching eight straight hours of football at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Dallas, they bring us to the very heart of what it means to love something so much it hurts.

Through crushing defeats and glorious wins, whether cheering penalty kicks with 65,000 fans in Liverpool or beholding a chess master castling in dead silence, BIG FAN is about why we love what we love and how fandom connects us in a time when so much else pulls us apart.

The Authors

Michael Schur is an Emmy Award–winning American television producer and writer. He co-created the comedy series Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Good Place. He is also well-known for his work on Saturday Night Live and The Office, which he also starred in. Schur lives in California with his wife, Jennifer Philbin, and their children.

Joe Posnanski is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of seven books, including The Baseball 100, Paterno, and The Secret of Golf, and has been named National Sportswriter of the Year by five different organizations. He writes at JoePosnanski.com and currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his family.

The Moderator

Jason Kander is an Afghanistan Veteran, a former Missouri Secretary of State, and a guy who ran for president until he decided PTSD therapy sounded more fun. Today he is an advisor at Veterans Community Project, the co-host of the Majority 54 podcast, a bestselling author, the founder of American Rescue Project, the real winner of the 2023 PosCast holiday draft, and a men’s amateur baseball player.

Please Note: There are no refunds for this event. If you are unable to attend, your book will be available for pickup at Rainy Day Books starting the following day. If you are not local, we'll be happy to mail it to you upon request. Thank you for your support!
