Michael J. Tougias Brings Extraordinary Survival Story

New York Times bestselling author Michael J. Tougias will present In Deep Water: A True Story of Sharks, Survival, and Courage at The Emerson Center on Tuesday, February 16, 2027, at 7:00 p.m.

When their boat sinks 12 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, three friends find themselves fighting for survival in open water for 28 hours. Facing rough seas, hypothermia, jellyfish stings, and circling sharks, they become part of one of the most improbable rescues in Coast Guard history.

In this narrated multimedia presentation, Tougias recounts the extraordinary true story through the eyes of both the survivors and the Coast Guard personnel who searched for them. Filled with dramatic twists, life-and-death decisions, and remarkable courage, In Deep Water is a powerful story of resilience and the human will to survive.

Tougias is the author or co-author of 30 books for adults and nine books for young adults and middle-grade readers. His bestselling titles include The Finest Hours, later adapted into a Disney feature film, as well as Ten Hours Until Dawn, Overboard!, Fatal Forecast, and A Storm Too Soon.
