June 3 - November 25, 2024 (six months)
Ecstasy can be a direct path to deeper connection with Reality. This ancient practice of synchronized movement, chant, and music uses the energy of desire to move closer to the heart of existence: the source of love, knowledge, and healing.
The components of the whirling practice will be taught during the first part of each class, and then students will have the opportunity to practice what they are learning in the context of actual Mevlevi zikr and ritual in our regular Monday gathering.
The Mevlevi Order of America is offering a rare opportunity to learn to whirl with a streamlined, contemporary approach. This class will concentrate on competence in the movements, while providing ample opportunity for group practice. Subsequent classes will explore the Sema ritual and other aspects of the Mevlevi Sufi tradition.
All are welcome, and no previous training is required. This is not a ‘drop-in’ class, as the training will build on previous levels of practice. Donations are encouraged to support this process.
