Celebrate the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra’s 25th anniversary with a captivating evening of unforgettable music. This multimedia performance explores the shared histories of two great American institutions, jazz and flight. Last performed at the Hylton Center in 2015, To Swing Through the Sky combines elements of theatricality, dance, and stunning visuals. The performance includes songstress Darden Purcell, whose personal connection adds depth to the aviation narrative at the heart of the work. Author Paul Glenshaw notes, “Jazz and flight are cousins born and raised at just about the same time. They grew up rapidly and changed everything in science and in music at a shockingly fast and eerily consistent, parallel pace.” Led by founder, artistic director, and virtuoso saxophonist Jim Carroll, the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra features many of the region’s finest musicians.

George Mason University’s Veterans and the Arts Initiative is proud to provide free tickets for Veterans and Servicemembers, available in person at the Hylton Center Ticket Office with ID (up to two tickets each).
This performance is appropriate for all ages.
Tickets: $65, $55, $45; half-price for youth through Grade 12
Prices include fees.
