While many know this masterpiece from Christmas performances, Handel actually composed it for the Easter season, creating a powerful musical narrative that traces the story from prophecy through Christ’s death, Resurrection, and Ascension.
Join us for this unique, part-sing-along and part-performance during the Lenten season. Throughout the afternoon, the Chamber Choir will present select choruses on their own, showcasing the work’s intricate beauty, while also serving as section leaders to guide singers of all experience levels through the community sing-along choruses of this sacred masterpiece. Columbia Chorale’s newly appointed conductors lead the assembled forces, with Chamber Choir’s capable voices providing a strong foundation for community singers to build upon. The afternoon features outstanding local soloists performing the arias and recitatives, accompanied by harpsichord and string ensemble. Bring your own score or borrow one of ours—no rehearsal required, just come ready to sing! Not a singer? Come be part of the audience and experience the magnificent sound of our community joining together in this moving musical journey from darkness to light.
