About this Event

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming event, Mental Illness & Homelessness From Crisis To Solutions: A Better Approach, taking place from 12:30pm to 6:45pm on December 6th at the Renaissance New Orleans Arts Warehouse District Hotel. This exclusive event promises to deliver exceptional value including a film presentation, networking opportunities, and insights from industry leaders and community speakers that you won't want to miss. Click here to see the speaker roster for the lineup so far. Let me share just a few highlights!

  • Elinore McCance-Katz, M.D., Ph.D. who, as first Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2017-2021, led the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to expand it's focus on severe mental illness.
  • Paul Webster, now senior fellow at the Cicero Institute, who brings more than 30 years experience to developing model legislation, effective public policy, and providing testimony in support of ending homelessness. His roles include Executive Director of LA Alliance for Human Rights and former Senior Policy Advisor on homelessness for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
  • Lynda Kaufman, VP Development and Public Relations, Psynergy Programs, Inc. Psynergy offers residential living facilities for individuals with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders. These facilities aim to help residents develop independent living skills for a successful transition to a less restrictive setting
  • Bethany Yeiser, President of the CURESZ Foundation, which she established in 2016 with Dr. Henry Nasrallah. The insidious emergence of schizophrenia led her on a path away from university and into a life of delusion and isolation. Bethany left college, only to become homeless. Eventually, a series of events led her to reclaim her life. In 2008, she made a full recovery. Bethany finished her bachelor's degree in molecular biology with honor from the University of Cincinnati in 2011.
  • Brian Stettin, where to begin?! Brian is currently Senior Advisor on Severe Mental Illness in the administration of New York City Mayor Eric Adams. He works in collaboration with city agencies and the city’s public hospital system to develop and implement policies prioritizing psychiatric care and support for New Yorkers in greatest need.
  • TOO MANY MORE TO MENTION HERE

We've carefully designed this event based on feedback from stakeholders like you, ensuring to raise awareness of important issues related to mental illness and that the content addresses the challenges and opportunities you face daily.

  • The day will begin with a Networking Reception and Registration: Connect with like-minded professionals in a relaxed setting.
  • Following registration, we will present the film Shattered Families: The Collapse of America's Mental Health System.
  • Throughout the rest of the day, we will hear from community speakers and expert panelists who will address policy as it relates to untreated severe mental illness and homelessness ending with an hour of Q&A from the audience.

Here's the best part.... tickets are just $25.00! (Well... plus processing fees) ;) As a charitable and educational nonprofit organization, it is important to us that information we share is accessible to all. Our events are made possible through the financial and in-kind contributions from sponsors and donors. These contributions are essential for covering event expenses like venue costs, equipment, marketing, and allow Healing Minds NOLA to allocate more resources to its core mission. If you're interested in sponsoring this, or future, events please email

We hope you will join us to explore viable ways to remove policy barriers to a full coordinated continuum of psychiatric treatment and care and help educate our community, policy leaders and business leaders, on why subacute residential living facilities and adequate treatment and care in psychiatric hospitals to avoid premature discharge must be part of that continuum.

We look forward to welcoming you on December 6th!
