This training is designed for any and all volunteers and participants of burn events in Australia, and particularly for the upcoming Underland Burn. We especially encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering for Sanctuary or as a Ranger as we will cover the basics on supporting festival attendees who require mental health first-aid or care while they are under the influence of a substance.
This will be a half-day gathering where we will learn from each other and build on our resilience as a community. No prior training in mental health is required and we gently ask that at least one volunteer from each theme camp come along.
We will cover some of the basics including
- Identifying and supporting someone who needs assistance
- Holding space for someone during a mind-altered state
- When to escalate to a paramedic or event lead
- What not to do
- Self-care
