About this Event
Mental Health is everyone's business and because one conversation can change everything, Mental Health First Aid gives you the confidence to step in and have that conversation when it matters most.
Despite the rise in mental health difficulties across the population, the stigma surrounding mental health still exists and often means people don't talk about it and are therefore reluctant to seek, or to receive support. This means people can suffer in silence.
Becoming a Mental Health First Aider is one way which individuals, businesses, and communities can help. By gaining the knowledge and skills to spot signs of people experiencing poor mental health, being confident to start a conversation and knowing where to signpost a person to appropriate support, a MHFAider® can feel reassured that they can make a difference.
The MHFA course does not teach you to be a therapist but it does give you an opportunity to develop good listening skills, as well as the confidence to offer reassurance and to be able to offer an initial response to someone who may need support or who may be in a mental health crisis.
As an MHFAider® you will become part of the only membership body for MHFAiders® in England, gaining access to resources, ongoing learning and 24/7 digital support through the MHFAider Support App®. This will give you the tools and knowledge you need to carry out your role effectively and confidently, whether that be in your workplace, or community.
As an MHFAider® you will be able to:
- Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
- Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
- Practise active listening and empathy
- Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
- Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
- Practise self-care
- Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
What You'll Receive:
- A hard copy workbook to support your learning throughout the course
- A digital manual to refer to whenever you need it after completing the course
- A wallet-sized reference card with the Mental Health First Aid action plan
- A digital MHFAider® certificate
- Membership benefits for 3 years which include access to the MHFAider Support App® and access to ongoing learning opportunities, resources and exclusive events
- The opportunity to be part of the largest MHFAider® community in England
