Two beloved members of the Aiken Symphony, its principal flautist and principal harpist, showcase one of Mozart's rare double concertos, the only work of his including the harp. A new staple of the string quartet and orchestral repertoire follows, showcasing one of today's most celebrated living composers, Jessie Montgomery, and her refreshing approach to writing for strings. Finally, Mendelssohn's sparkling Italian Symphony captures the warmth and spirit of Italy that he felt during his tour of Europe in 1830. Similarly, Mozart's charming Concerto for Flute and Harp was composed during the 22-year-old's 7-month summer sojourn in Paris.
