MENARCHE TO MATRIARCH: YOGA FOR TIMES OF TRANSITION WITH LESLIE HOWARD
About this Event
MENARCHE TO MATRIARCH: YOGA FOR TIMES OF TRANSITION
Having a pelvis that was born with a uterus brings both profound capacity and real challenge. Across a lifetime, the body moves through distinct phases – menstruation, perimenopause/menopause, and post-menopause – each with its own physiology, symptoms and possibilities for practice.
In this 3-hour workshop, we will explore the changing landscape of the female body through a blend of accessible physiology, lived experience, and targeted yoga practices. Rather than separating these stages, we will trace the arc of a lifetime – looking at how to support the body through transition with clarity, steadiness and care.
You will learn:
– Key physiological shifts across the hormonal lifespan
– Common symptoms (pain, fatigue, hot flashes, sleep disruption, instability) and why they arise
– Yoga postures, modifications, and breath practices to support each phase
– How to adapt practice not just to age, but to the moment you are in
This workshop is designed for students and teachers alike: anyone wanting to better understand and support the body through these powerful transitions.
We will touch on:
Menstruation: ‘A Period Is Punctuation—Of a Different Kind’
Understanding the wide range of menstrual experience – from ease to significant discomfort – and how yoga can support pain, fatigue and emotional fluctuation.
Perimenopause & Menopause: ‘Riding the Tide’
Exploring the hormonal shifts that influence heat, sleep, mood, and energy, along with practices to regulate and steady the system.
Post-Menopause: ‘The Magnificent Matriarch’
Supporting strength, bone health, balance, and vitality as reserves shift, with an emphasis on staying connected, resilient and engaged.
This is not about fixing the body but about learning how to meet it, again and again, as it changes.
