Memories at the PAC
This outreach program offers much more than just a trip to the movies, it provides a joyful, accessible space for community connection and cognitive wellness. By screening beloved classic films and musicals, we tap into the “Reminiscence Bump,” a phenomenon where familiar sights and sounds naturally unlock deep-seated memories.
For some, these classic musicals are a powerful therapeutic tool. The familiar rhythms and melodies bypass cognitive barriers and can combat social isolation through a wonderful opportunity to share a beloved cultural experience in a supportive environment.
Schedule of Screenings:
10:00 AM: “Memories at the PAC” Free Screening (Reserved for Memory Care Patients and Facilities)
2:00 PM: “Silver Matinee” Free Screening (Open to all Senior Center Residents)
A “Dementia-Friendly” Theater Experience
We have specially modified our theater to ensure a comfortable and stress-free environment for memory care guests and their caregivers:
Relaxed Sensory Experience: House lights remain dimly lit (no pitch-black theater) and audio levels are softened to prevent startles.
Judgment-Free Zone: We have a strict “no shushing” policy! Singing along, talking, and moving around are completely welcomed.
Comfort & Accessibility: Ample space for wheelchairs and walkers, early entry to avoid rushing, and a designated “Quiet Zone” in the lobby for anyone who needs a break.
