SUNDAY, Jan 11 from 5:30 to 7MEMORIAL FOR JEWEL AND SHAUNZI
PLease save the date!
At the end of 2022, there were four elephants in the Los Angeles Zoo. Now there are none. But instead of being able to celebrate because all them found happiness and the taste of freedom, however short-lived, in sanctuary, two, Billy and Tina, were trucked off to another zoo and two were euthanized, a fancy word for killed.
Jewel, after a lifetime of circus and zoo captivity, was yanked out of her life on January 15, 2023 at about the age of 61. The zoo claimed "declining health".
53 year old Shaunzi was made to follow on January 3, 2024. She had lain down and refused to get up: she was done with this world, filled with, like Jewel, nothing but the misery of zoo and circis captivity.
On Jan 11, the last night of the LA Zoo's winter evening events, Zoo Lights, we will honor and remember these two beautiful girls who, like Billy and Tina, deserved better.
Join us for this solemn vigil of remembrance.
SUNDAY, Jan. 11, from 5:30 to 7. Free parking.
Please bring battery operated candles if you have them. Hand made posters are welcome but signs and flyers are also provided.
