Join the African American Heritage Project, in partnership with Nacogdoches Historic Sites and the East Texas Research Center, for Memorial Day Memories, a special community program dedicated to the preservation and continued storytelling of the Zion Hill District.This engaging morning event brings together historians, researchers, and community leaders to share practical tools and inspiring perspectives on preserving personal and community history. Through presentations and conversation, attendees will learn how individual memories, family records, and shared experiences contribute to protecting the legacy of one of Nacogdoches’ most significant historic communities.
Program Highlights include:
Preserving Your History presented by Kyle Ainsworth, East Texas Research Center
Discovering Your Roots with historian and author Archie Rison
Community History presented by Paul Jackson and Lasha Williams of the African American Heritage Project
The program will conclude with a Community Service Award Ceremony recognizing individuals who have made meaningful contributions to our local community. Refreshments will follow, offering time for fellowship and continued discussion.
Community members are encouraged to attend, share stories, and learn how they can play an active role in preserving the history and heritage of the Zion Hill District for future generations.
