Melting ICE Part 2 ; a QTBIPOC (+ Allies) centered fund-party

(Our space welcomes everyone but centers our QTBIPOC fam)

AMOR’s Community Response Team and Planeta are teaming up to throw a fund-party on the heels of Inauguration Day, raising funds for folx who are experiencing ICE Detention in RI. With threats of mass deportation to our immigrant community, there is a need to come together in solidarity and for our people who are currently experiencing ICE Detention, or those who may become at risk. We’re hoping to build an intentional community space, learn together, and dance for a cause! There will be opportunities to make art and to participate in a raffle to win local artwork and goodies- more details on that to come soon!

This past summer, AMOR’s Community Response Team launched its Fund for ICE Detainees, which provides folx detained at the Wyatt Detention Center due to immigration status with money for invaluable commissary phone calls to families and legal help, and basic necessities like soap, deodorant, and toothpaste. Thus far, we have distributed over $2600 to 22 people, and are hoping to continue donating such funds, especially as we have seen the number of ICE detainees held at the Wyatt jump from 55 to 110 just last month.

This event will also be a fundraiser for Planeta as it switches to a non-profit and reaffirms its core values by centering activism, organizing, and advocacy; focusing on broadening what it means to hold space for community care, safety, self-expression, political engagement, and acknowledging unjust histories.

As always, our space welcomes everyone but centers our QT-BIPOC fam. We want everyone to feel comfortable but please reflect on how you show up in space. Planeta is a traveling event where community is kind enough to host us in their space/home. Let’s practice care for each other and the spaces we occupy.
