It’s time for the Mel’s River Run fundraiser! Forward Outdoor will be assisting with kayak rentals, with a portion of proceeds going directly back to Mel’s!

When: Saturday, April 26, 2025
Times: First wave will launch at Waubedonia Park in Fredonia at 8:30am (4-5 hour paddle), second wave will launch at Ehlers Park in Saukville (2-3 hour paddle).
If you are RENTING a kayak you can park at the end of the trip at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Grafton, then hop on the shuttle bus provided by Mel’s that will take you up to Waubedonia Park in time for the main departure at 8:30am. If you are signing up for the shorter trip from Ehler’s Park at 10:30 you can either shuttle yourself, or we can provide a ride from Grafton to Ehlers at about 10am so you can still leave your car in Grafton. We will have your kayak waiting for you at the launch, you just hop in, paddle, and we’ll pick up the kayak at the end!
Cost:
$45 per person + taxes/fees for a single kayak, paddle, life jacket. (Must be at least 12 years old to paddle solo)
$75 for a tandem kayak + taxes/fees, 2 paddles, 2 life jackets (great option for those under 12. Must paddle with an adult and be over 50 pounds)
$20 from each rental donated back to Mel’s!
Gear to bring: Shoes and clothing that can get wet and are appropriate for the day’s weather conditions, towel, water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, dry clothes for after.
Boat types: We have mostly sit on tops, with a few sit-ins and tandems. Sit on tops are comfortable, stable and less likely to drag in low water because they sit higher. Weight limit on standard sit ons is 300 pounds, we have some larger ones with a 350 pound capacity. Sit inside kayaks are great for those with some paddling experience. Our standard length sit inside has a weight limit of 275 pounds, and our larger one is 325 pounds. During the reservation process there is a place to enter your preference if you have one. We will honor requests on a first come first served basis. We will do our best to get you your desired boat but we cannot guarantee a particular model.
