Thirlmere” a presentation by John Butcher
The Thirlmere Aquaduct is a 95.9-mile-long pioneering section of water supply system, built by the Manchester Corporation Water Works between 1890 and 1925. Often incorrectly described as one of the longest tunnels in the world, the aqueduct’s tunnel section is not continuous it also has some unique problems in repair and refurbishment. John is a very good speaker you may recall his last talk to L.E.S. about the New York aqueduct refurbishment was fascinating particularly the difference in scale!
