About this Event
Presented by Susan Waters and staff of Quamash EcoResearch

Pollinators are remarkable not only because they are essential to wild landscapes and human food production, but also because of their beauty and diversity. Even better, it’s easy to watch their fascinating behaviors on flowers all around us. Join us for a 1.5-hour program on our local bees and other flower visitors, and the role of Padilla Bay’s prairie restoration in supporting pollinators. The program will include:
1. A whirlwind introduction to bee diversity, including overviews of major bee families and lifestyles (slide-based presentation, approx. 20-25 minutes)
2. Some lab time to compare bee, fly, and wasp specimens, and explore some of the many adaptations bees have for harvesting pollen and nectar from flowers (approx.. 20-25 minutes)
3. Some field time with nets, learning how to capture pollinators, look at them safely in clear vials, and release them.
Ages 13+ please be prepared to be outdoor we alwasy suggest sunscree, hats and water!
Please do not attend if you have an allergy to bee stings, and be aware this is a risk of the field portion of the event.
