Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Claudia Rankine is one of the most innovative voices of American contemporary poetry. Her book Citizen: An American Lyric holds the distinction of being the only poetry book to be a New York Times bestseller in the nonfiction category.
Rankine’s work explores what it means to be an American citizen in a “post-racial” society.
She often crosses genres to interrogate white privilege, well-meaning liberal politics, racism and fragmented selfhood. Whether she writes about intimacy or alienation, her voice is one of unrelenting candour.
She is also the co-editor of notable anthologies like The Racial Imaginary: Writers on Race in the Life of the Mind and a co-founder of The Racial Imaginary Institute, a think tank for artists and writers who challenge the racial imaginaries of our time.

Née à Kingston, en Jamaïque, Claudia Rankine est l'une des voix les plus novatrices de la poésie contemporaine américaine. Son livre Citizen: An American Lyric est le seul recueil de poésie (à ce jour) à avoir figuré sur la liste des best-sellers du New York Times dans la catégorie non-fiction.
L'œuvre de Rankine explore ce que signifie être un citoyen américain dans une société « post-raciale ».
Elle traverse souvent les genres pour interroger le privilège blanc, la politique libérale bien intentionnée, le racisme et l'identité fragmentée. Qu'elle écrive sur l'intimité ou l'aliénation, sa voix est d'une sincérité implacable.
Elle est également co-éditrice d'anthologies notables telles que The Racial Imaginary: Writers on Race in the Life of the Mind, et cofondatrice du Racial Imaginary Institute, un groupe de réflexion pour les artistes et les écrivains qui remettent en question les imaginaires raciaux de notre époque.
