Benjamin Moser comes to Bozar to present his new book, published simultaneously in twenty countries. Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History is a penetrating and richly documented study of an often overlooked intellectual tradition within Jewish thought.
Together with Brigitte Herremans, he will discuss history, identity, diaspora and the moral and political questions raised by the conflict in the Middle East today.
Known for his award-winning biography of Susan Sontag and his works on Clarice Lispector and on the Old Masters, Moser explores how Jewish thinkers, artists, rabbis, journalists, and activists have maintained a critical stance towards Zionism across generations. Their stories reveal how political dissent and moral reflection have often coincided with exclusion, controversy and personal risk.
Drawing on historical figures and contemporary debates, this evening creates space for nuance and reflection. At the same time, the book challenges a persistent assumption: that anti-Zionism is synonymous with antisemitism.
An evening exploring history, memory and moral responsibility, as well as the power of literature and ideas to challenge dominant narratives.
