COALITION CHAOS: NAT SMITH REPLACES BEN BRITTON AS LIBERAL CANDIDATE FOR WHITLAMThe Liberal Party has called on Nathaniel Smith, the former Member for the State seat of Wollondilly, to replace Ben Britton as the party’s candidate for the seat of Whitlam in next month’s Federal election.
The shock change on Sunday followed media reports a few days ago that included historic comments made by Britton in relation to women in the army, including that they should not serve in combat.
Britton is an army veteran who served as a paratrooper.
The replacement comes just three days after the National Party’s Katrina Hodgkinson withdrew from the election race in order to give Britton a better chance of beating Labor’s Carol Berry.
The Express has spoken to Mr Smith this afternoon and will report on the extraordinary development fully in Wednesday’s paper.
