After two decades of working in the entertainment industry, Shadley Grei moved back to Iowa in 2020 at the start of the pandemic to care for his mother. In the quiet nights after caretaking, he went searching for some creative escape and dusted off a screenplay he had written in 2010 as a subtle love letter to his hometown of Des Moines. That script evolved into his first novel, Before Closure. He is a ghostwriter, consultant, and publisher, living in West Des Moines with his husband, too many books, and never quite enough time to read.
