Iris Costello is the pseudonym of bestselling author, Nuala Ellwood. She has a BA Hons degree in Sociology from Durham University and a Master's in Creative Writing from York St John University where she is a visiting lecturer. She is the author of eight highly acclaimed novels, her ninth and most recent being The Paris Bookshop Secret.
Some may remember my review of The Secrets of Rochester Place - https://foxburg.edublogs.org/2023/05/13/the-secrets-of-rochester-place/ and the links to the Basque refugees who were cared for my Teesside volunteers at Hutton Hall, near Guisborough.
Nuala will be speaking about The Paris Bookshop Secret. It is described thus: When Alexis meets Maeve, a reclusive woman in her eighties, they feel an unexpected and beautiful kinship.
Alexis is embracing nomad life after burning out as a big-shot editor. And Maeve is mourning her glory days as a bestselling author. Their friendship inspires Maeve to write again. Her last novel pours out of her - a story of love and heartbreak, centred around a bookshop in 1950s Paris. Drake the Bookshop have arranged for copies of The Paris Bookshop Secret to be available for sale, and the Friend of St. Cuthbert's Church will be providing refreshments which will may include homemade soup. Although there is no charge we are looking for donations to the Friends of St. Cuthbert's so that we can continue to fight to save the church from closure.
