Don’t miss this special opportunity to meet exhibiting artist Robert Gonzalez and attend his lecture, “Immanence and Transcendence in Art.”
In this talk, Gonzalez explores the idea that art is inherently in a continual state of becoming. Drawing parallels to the ever-evolving nature of the Universe, he proposes that art exists in a similar state of expansion. Since the earliest moments of human creativity, artists have intuitively understood that art, like love, is relational, dynamic, and increasingly complex.
Gonzalez will also discuss the two series featured in the Minnesota Marine Art Museum exhibition "Robert Gonzalez: Mystical Waters": Mystical Waters and Temazcal. In addition, he will speak about his artistic practice, techniques, and the evolution of his work over time.
About the artist: Robert Gonzalez is a visual and performance artist, curator, and musician born in Laredo, Texas. He holds a B.A. in Painting from Trinity University (1978) and a B.B.A. in Management from the University of the Incarnate Word (1980). For more than five decades, he has been dedicated to the practices of painting (since 1972) and performance art (since 1974).
Gonzalez’s paintings were recently exhibited at Trinity University’s Neidorff Gallery and at the UTSA Southwest School of Art’s Rodgers Galleries as part of the NYFA Courage exhibition, which he co-curated with Huakai Chen. His most recent performance work took place in June 2024 at The Contemporary at Blue Star for the Xicanx International Exhibition.
A curator since 1982, Gonzalez has organized more than two hundred local, regional, and national art exhibitions. He is also an active musician with five albums available on iTunes under the name Xivero. His artistic career has been shaped by extensive travel throughout Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Europe, and Canada.
