About this Event

Meet Rachel Carson

An amazing performance about Ms. Carson and her enduring legacy. The performance will bring Rachel
Carson back to life, if even for just an hour, introducing her to a new generation of young
people and re-connecting her with those not so young who have inherited her legacy and still
care deeply about our natural world. This program is appropriate for all ages.

Presenter Colleen Webster lives at the juncture of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay
where she runs, bikes, kayaks, paddleboards and walks with her dog. When she comes
inside she works as a Professor of English at Harford Community College, waiting for her next
outdoor foray. In addition to her academic background in literature, she has earned a Master
Naturalist Certificate from Harford County Parks and a certificate in Environmental Studies
from Johns Hopkins University. She is a field trip leader for the Maryland Ornithological
Society, Harford Chapter and the Chesapeake Audubon Society. She teaches yoga and
Paddleboard Yoga at various venues including The Arena Club. In the summers Colleen is a
local kayak guide and paddle board instructor.

Her poetry, essays and book reviews have appeared in publications that include: The
Maryland Poetry Review, ARIEL: A Review of International English Literature, Tacenda,
Milkweed Editions, Poetry Midwest, Isotope, Penumbra, The Women’s Review of Books and
the Disquieting Muses Quarterly Review. She offers one woman shows on Frida Kahlo,
Georgia O’Keeffe, Dorothy Parker, Rachel Carson and Emily Dickinson. More information on
these and other presentations can be found on her website. She was nominated for a
Pushcart Prize in poetry in 2002 and 2004, awarded the O’Henry Prize for Literary Excellence in Harford County, and appointed Poet Laureate of Havre de Grace in 2014. livinghistoryperformances.com
