Join us for Dinner with Mark Tewksbury-Olympic champion, humanitarian, and one of Canada’s most respected voices for justice, inclusion, clean sport, and 2SLGBTQIA+ rights.
Throughout his remarkable 16-year swimming career, Mark earned 21 national titles, set seven world records, competed in two Olympic Games, and won three Olympic medals including gold in the 100-metre backstroke.
Yet it is Mark’s leadership beyond the pool that has truly come to define him. He has become a powerful advocate for diversity, belonging, intellectual disability inclusion, and the rights and well-being of queer youth and athletes.
Hosted and presented by the Affirm Committee of Comox United Church, this special evening will support Dawn to Dawn’s Gukwa̱s sa Wagalus- Rainbow House initiative.
Gukwa̱s sa Wagalus responds to the disproportionate impact of homelessness and housing insecurity on 2SLGBTQIA+ youth by providing safe, affirming, and supported transitional housing. The first residents moved into the home in February, marking an important step toward greater safety, stability, connection, and belonging for queer youth in our community.
Mark is a strong supporter of this initiative, which closely reflects his lifelong commitment to supporting queer youth and challenging homophobia in sport and the wider community.
