Psychedelic Medicine: Past, Present & Future
Join us for an engaging evening with New York Times correspondent and author Ernesto Londoño for a thought-provoking conversation exploring one of the most fascinating and rapidly evolving frontiers in health care and culture.
Londoño, author of Trippy: The Promise and Perils of Medicinal Psychedelics, will open the evening with a reading from his book, followed by a conversation with Dr. Alexander Herman. Dr. Herman is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Minnesota, where he is a member of the Medical Discovery Team on Addiction and an Institute for Translational Neuroscience Scholar. He leads a research team that recently received a State of Minnesota grant to investigate whether psilocybin can benefit people living with spinal cord injuries.

Together, they will discuss Londoño's reporting and personal journey researching psychedelic medicine, the latest scientific developments, and the future of psychedelic therapies at a time when federal interest in accelerating research is growing. Their conversation will explore the history, promise, and challenges of this emerging field, offering insights from both journalism and cutting-edge medical research.
Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Londoño has reported from around the world, covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Arab Spring, and international affairs for both The Washington Post and The New York Times. His interest in psychedelic medicine began while serving as The New York Times' Brazil bureau chief, where a personal struggle with depression led him to investigate the field both as a journalist and participant.
Following the program, guests will have the opportunity to meet the author and have books signed. Copies of Trippy will be available for purchase.
A cash bar will be available throughout the evening, and guests are encouraged to continue the conversation over dinner at Charlie's following the event.
