“A New Frame Of Mind” is a group exhibition that challenges the traditional role of the picture frame. Curated by local custom framer and visual artist Travis Pickett, the show features works by a variety of established Louisiana artists. Each piece is presented in a bespoke frame created through a unique collaborative process.
The central premise of “A New Frame of Mind” is that a picture frame is not merely a border but an extension of the artwork itself. For this project, Travis Pickett worked one-on-one with each artist to design and handcraft frames that enhance, contextualize, and deepen the narrative of their work.
By providing this service at no cost to the artists, the exhibition removes a significant financial barrier, allowing for a focus on pure creative collaboration.
“We often overlook the power of a frame to shape our experience of art,” said Pickett, founder of ArtSoulLife Fine Art & Custom Framing. “This exhibition is about starting a conversation. It’s a celebration of craftsmanship and a demonstration of how thoughtful presentation can elevate a story. The frame is the final, collaborative brushstroke.”
“A New Frame of Mind” is made possible with support from community partnerships with the YWCA of Baton Rouge, Cultural Crossroads Inc. and the Manship Theatre.
