Want to meditate, but can't sit still?
This workshop will help you gain skills to make progress in your daily life for many personal goals: managing stress, increasing exercise time (enjoyably!), and cultivating a better quality of life deliberately, through the mindful practices of Meditation in Motion.
Why Meditation in Motion?
In striving to understand or tame the Mind, many people neglect the Mind-Body connection. But the Mind does not live independently of the Body, and a Body is Motion can be just as effective for meditation - if not more so! There are many ways to achieve a meditative state while being active, which we will explore through participatory activities.
Participants will be invited to:
· Actively release thought, with mindful awareness of their body’s movements
· Practice activities that shift awareness to the physical body and the physical world
· Cultivate a sense of the present moment through active observation
Each participant will also get started on a Flexible Plan to integrate Meditation in Motion into their own daily life. This may include:
· Ways to make being out amongst people more enjoyable (doing errands, driving, “peopling”)
· Techniques to alleviate in-the-moment stress (workplace stress, social anxiety)
· How to become more meditative over time through repeated easy actions and decisions
Small, everyday shifts in thought and physical activity can create a rich, active meditation practice that naturally becomes a part of your day. It won't have to be something you "remember" to do, it will become something you do naturally, moment to moment, as you feel your body responding to your increasingly tuned-in awareness. As you live more in the Now.
Come dressed comfortably, in clothes that allow easy movement. Our practices will not require a high level of fitness; we will engage in gentle movements that each person can adapt for their own bodies and comfort. Be prepared to stand and to move about the room in various ways - but feel free to bring your favorite chair or mat if you wish to sit.
