The drum is one of the oldest instruments, second only to the voice have been a major part cultures for thousands of year. The drumbeat has the power to lead us into song, dance, and into journeys through the worlds. Shamanic drumming refers to the use of sustained, repetitive drumming rhythms that have a number of psychological effects on the body. These sustained rhythms act as sonic drivers, creating a shift in your brain rhythms from a busy Beta state to a trance like Theta state, optimal for a meditative journey.
A drum is a must-have for everyone because drumming allows for self-expression, deeper self-awareness, is good for your health, brings communities together, accessible, assists spiritual growth and insight, and lastly its Fun!

Your very own drum is a special friend who will support your healing, take you on breathtaking journeys and share with you a connection and oneness with all.

In this 4 hour workshop, you will birth your own drum in a day of hands on crafting and ceremony, honoring the spirits of the animal and the tree. Buffalo Hyde offers a deep voice and works with ancestors and connection to nature and Spirit.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
• MATERIALS INCLUDED: 18” Natural Steam Bent Willow Wood Frame, Buffalo Hyde and lacing all ethically sourced, thus keeping the spirit of the animal (Buffalo) within the drum. and a drum beater

• HANDS ON CRAFTING: Step-by-step instructions on how to do the lacing, make the handle and handmake a drum beater.

• GUIDED CEREMONY/JOURNEY: When you have birthed your drum, you will be led by Mary Ablao on a journey to connect and forever bond you to the spirit of your drum.

WHAT TO BRING:
• Large towel to wrap your finished drum in.

• If you would like to place a crystal in the handle of your drum, something flat about the size of a dime is ideal. Bring any other embellishments for your handle.

• This will be a potluck style community event, Soup and drinks will be provided, please bring a light snack or side dish to complement. We will break for lunch in the afternoon.

To birth your own drum is a truly rewarding experience; putting your love, intent and energy into this powerful medicine tool will make a truly special drum for a lifetime companion. Spots are Limited be sure to Register Early.

About the Creative Facilitators: Mary Ablao & Alexis Schneider
Mary Ablao of Studio Retreat in St Johns is an Artist, a Registered Art Therapist, Certified Reiki Master, Sound Healing & Shamanic Practitioner. As a lifelong artist and teacher, Mary's creative spirit allows her to truly connect heart to heart with the groups she leads. After decades of art immersion, Mary followed her creative calling to incorporate sound frequencies into her service offerings. Spirit flows through her beautiful soundscapes and shamanic journeys to align mind and body.
Alexis is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS) and Energy Healing Practitioner. With over 20 years of experience in the mental health, rehabilitation, wellness space and her own health journey through cancer, Alexis takes a science-and-soul approach to healing. As the Owner & Founding Director of LiveWell, Alexis is passionate about helping her community HEAL, LEARN and GROW. She believes that in order for us to truly heal we must identify the root cause and address all layers of self: physical, energetic, mental, emotional, spiritual and communal. Alexis inspires and empowers people to create their own state of ultimate health and happiness, naturally.
