About this Event

Our event series showcases major advances in biomedical science and raises awareness of the medical implications of major scientific advances. Interested members of the Crick and wider UK biomedical community are invited to attend. Members of the academic medical press are also invited. Each event comprises a series of talks and a panel discussion, followed by networking for in person attendees.

More about the event

This 20th edition of Medicine at the Crick will be hosted by Professor Robert J Wilkinson (The Francis Crick Institute).

Epidemiological surveillance of, and pharmacological intervention in, tuberculosis requires detection of incident symptomatic cases (also referred to as active), and risk stratification amongst those inferred infected (referred to as latent or asymptomatic). Pathogen detection can be problematic due to anatomically sequestered small numbers of bacilli in many instances. Nevertheless, significant progress in diagnostics has been made in the last 20 years. This symposium will convene four international experts who will review aspects of progress, the underlying Science and prospects for further advances in this important field.
