About this Event

About this event:

Dive deep into the world of video editing with DaVinci Resolve! Uncover the secrets of professional editing, colour grading, and using sound in our 4-week hands-on course and improve your visual storytelling skills.

Join experienced filmmaker Rowan Devereux of The Story Mill to discover the power of this industry-leading platform for video editing that is free to download and use on your personal computer.

Whether you’re creating videos for content, work presentations or you’re an aspiring filmmaker, don’t miss this chance to develop skills using an industry-leading video editing suite with personalised guidance in a supportive and collaborative environment!

Please note, this course is a four-week commitment, Wednesdays 4-25 March 5:30-7:30pm, so please ensure you can attend all sessions before booking.

Week 1: Editing Fundamentals and File Management Focus

In the first week, immerse yourself in the world of DaVinci Resolve. Be introduced to editing workflows and tools. Set up a project and learn to assemble a rough cut of a scene.

Week 2: Refining the Edit and Storytelling

Delve deeper into the art of editing and understand how editorial choices affect story and tone. Shape performance and rhythm by using transitions, titles, fine cutting techniques, and trimming to restructure scenes.

Week 3: Colour Grading for Mood and Meaning

This week create a colour grade and learn to change the feel of a scene using colour. Apply corrections, contrast, colour temperature and saturation, while matching shots within a scene.

Week 4: Sound Design, Music and Final Delivery

In the final week put the finishing touches on your project, bringing it to life by cleaning up dialogue, adding sound effects and music. Learn to apply final checks and export the polished product for different platforms.

Cost: $27.50 for four sessions.

Age: 16+

Skill level: No previous experience required.

Equipment: Computers are available for use in the Media Lab. If you would prefer to work from your own device, we encourage you to do so. Please select BYO device ticket type and download and install DaVinci Resolve (free version) on your computer.

Spaces are limited so bookings are essential.
