This engaging, hands-on workshop will unpack what makes book covers work. Explore design differences across genres and learn how to set up a professional eBook cover in Adobe InDesign.
Drawing on real publishing industry experience, this workshop blends insider knowledge with hands-on design skills so you can create your eBook and a cover that looks polished, portrays your genre and sells!
For the graphic design curious, self-publishing authors, and book lovers with an eye for design, don’t miss out.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- How successful book covers communicate genre and attract the right readers.
- The essential layout elements of front covers such as titles, hierarchy and imagery.
- Setting up a professional eBook cover in Adobe InDesign using correct sizing, margins, bleed, colour modes, and export settings for print-on-demand publishing platforms.
- Sourcing, creating or licensing images for commercial self-publishing.
Spaces are limited, so bookings are essential.
Cost: $8.50
Age: 16+
Skill level: No experience required.
Equipment: The Media Lab is equipped with computers with Adobe InDesign installed. Please bring a USB to save your work. If you have a device with Adobe InDesign installed you are welcome to bring your own, please select BYO device ticket type.
About the Facilitator:
Jane Venegas is the founder and director of Nested Realities. She is a 3D and VR producer who is passionate and enthusiastic about the metaverse and AI technologies. She has worked with the automotive industry, airlines, state governments, theme parks and architects to transform brands through interactive storytelling.
About the Media Lab:
The Media Lab boasts a professional studio set up with a cyclorama wall, green screens, studio lights and Surface Studios with the full Adobe Creative Cloud. The digital tool library contains cameras, recording equipment and other digital accessories that can be borrowed for free with your library membership.
