The Military History Center of the Carolinas Museum in the Community Corridor of the Greenville Downtown Airport is unveiling a special exhibit on March 25, 2025, from 12-3 p.m. that is open to the public in honor of National Medal of Honor Day. There will be an unveiling of the MOH, which is on loan for public viewing, from the Korean War during a short presentation at 1 p.m. The recipient was only one of four African American Soldiers that was recommended to receive the highest military decoration during the Korean War. Members of the local Korean War Veterans Association, Foothills Chapter 301, are scheduled to attend. Medal of Honor Day was designated as March 25 by Congress in 1991. That day was chosen because that was when the first MOH was in 1863. The MOH is presented only to military members for personal acts of valor that went above and beyond the call of duty.
“There have been only 2,404 Army Medal of Honor recipients since its creation and 106 of those are from the Korean War,” said Thom Iannarino, retired Army Vietnam veteran and combat pilot. “The Military History Center of the Carolinas is very fortunate to have this MOH on loan to share with the community.”
The Military History Center of the Carolinas (MHCC) is nonprofit organization that is dedicated to honoring our veterans, preserving United States Military History, and performing community service events for our local communities. The museum is located in the Community Corridor of the Greenville Downtown Airport is the only modern military museum in the Upstate. While entry is free, all donations are tax deductible and help to maintain and improve the museum.
