Join us for Meadowlarks, the story of four siblings, torn apart by the Sixties Scoop, who reunite for one week.
Inspired by her own acclaimed documentary Birth of a Family, director Tasha Hubbard’s Meadowlarks tells the story of four Cree siblings, separated since childhood and now in their fifties, who agree to meet for the first time over a holiday weekend in Banff.
Without the usual markers of familiarity, or a shared sense of cultural belonging, Anthony, Connie, Marianne and Gwen discover unexpected moments of joyous synchronicity, conflict, and connection. With further guidance from the warmth of a newly discovered community, a fledgling family is invited to heal. Excited and curious, but also scarred and afraid of rejection, the Meadowlark siblings must contend with where they have been, and who they will become, especially to one another.
An emotional journey handled with care, respect, and beauty — one of the Birth of a Family siblings is credited on Meadowlarks as executive producer while Hubbard is a Sixties Scoop survivor — Meadowlarks will leave you in tears, hugging your family members closer.
A special presentation world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, Meadowlarks is rated 88% fresh on Rottentomatoes.com
“Fueled by terrific performances, Meadowlarks is an emotional look at the devastating personal effects that came as a result of the Sixties Scoop, but is a hopeful, heartfelt movie that suggests the fabric of family can be mended no matter how frayed.” – Robert Crouse
