Join us as we gather to honor the magic of the season, community, and connection. As the nights grow longer, we meet in gratitude — to share food, friendship, and light. Each dish, each lantern, each smile adds to the warmth that carries us through the darker days ahead. Come ready to play, break bread, and light the night together.
📅 When: Thursday, November 20 · 3 PM – Sundown (come anytime)
📍 Where: Monument Valley Park North End Playground, Colorado Springs
Event Highlights
• Meadow Games – Kick off the evening with a few of our favorite meadow games, open to all ages.
• Potluck Picnic – Bring your favorite holiday dish to share with the community.
• Annual Lantern Walk – As dusk settles, gather your lanterns for a peaceful walk through the park. Together, our lights will weave a gentle glow through the meadow.
What to Bring
• A Lantern – Each family is invited to bring their own small light to carry through the night. It could be a mason jar with an LED tea light, a paper lantern, flashlight, or something handmade that feels like you.
• A Dish to Share (optional) – If you plan to bring a dish, include a label with ingredients so everyone can enjoy safely — and comment below to let us know what you’re bringing!
• Picnic Blanket or Chairs
• Cozy Layers or Blankets
• Water Bottle
Join us in the meadow at Monument Valley North End Playground! We will start around 3:15pm and end at sundown, participants can join at any time. Games are rotated with breaks in between. Come when you can, play when you're ready, and leave when you must!
Sign-in at the Sign-in Tree to confirm your yearly waiver, child(ren) names and ages, and share an estimated time you’ll leave. Sign out when you head home, so we know who’s still in the meadow and how to form the next round of games.
A current Meadow League waiver is required for every person participating in our gatherings. This includes game play, sidelines, and general involvement during Meadow League events. If you’ve already completed the annual waiver, you’re all set. If not, please take a moment before joining us. Waiver can be found here: https://form.jotform.com/253084165545055
We start playing near the big playground under the big beautiful trees. Look for the table with a large grey igloo cooler, and oranges.
🌈 What to Expect:
Game Sessions: Game sessions open with tag which can include any variation, from classic freeze tag to unique versions like banana tag, where being smaller is the advantage! Tag is the icebreaking field game opener as its rules are familiar; participants can join in and play at any time they arrive.
As a community-led event, games will be decided together, often by vote. This approach contributes to fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among participants. Field games we frequently play include all variations of tag, capture the flag, kickball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, sharks and minnows, and all the creative games that are created within the community (they always tend to be a favorite).
Most games can be modified to level the playing field, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate and make an impact. It is not unusual for younger kids to team up with adults or teenagers to strategize and take on the faster ones. Or in the case of capture the flag, the younger kids might have a special role as a seeker to find the golden flag that could win the game for their team!
Community Play: Field games are an opportunity for reconnecting individuals of all ages and generations to the essence of play and authentic community engagement.
Flexibility and Inclusivity: Join when you can, play when you're ready, and leave when you must – it's all about enjoying the experience in a way that suits you and your family. Some children (and adults) will jump right in, while others may need time to observe before feeling ready, and some just love to cheer and speculate from the sidelines- all is encouraged, valued and welcomed!
Nourish to Flourish: Throughout the event, multiples breaks for water and snacks are encouraged to keep everyone hydrated and energized. These breaks are also perfect opportunities for strategizing with new friends, reflecting on the fun, and general socialization.
Safety is Paramount: All community members engaging in meadow games should prioritize safety by avoiding unnecessary risks and playing responsibly within their abilities. While inclusivity is encouraged, it's essential to understand that participation is at your own risk. Be mindful of your surroundings and honor your limitations.
