Me & White Supremacy 28-Day Anti-Racism Challenge

Every February, Summits in Solidarity leads a virtual anti-racism challenge for white people.* Using Layla Saad’s "Me and White Supremacy" book as a guide, you’ll join other participants in a journey to understand how white supremacy has influenced your thinking, perceptions, and behavior.

Together, we'll unpack our white privilege, white fragility, racist biases we may hold, and other aspects of white supremacy we may unintentionally harbor. We’ll learn how to take action and dismantle privilege within ourselves so that we can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on People of Color, and in turn, help other white people do better, too.

Details and time commitment:

For each of the 28 days in February, you will read one chapter from the book (each is only a few pages long) and answer the corresponding reflection questions. We will meet in small groups on Zoom one hour a week throughout the month to share and grow collectively.

The daily readings take about 15 minutes a day and can be accessed via book, PDF, or audiobook. The daily reflections should take another 15-20 minutes (or more, if you'd like!).

Schedule and Tickets:

There will be two groups that meet weekly from 7-8:15pm EST: when purchasing your ticket you can choose Mondays or Tuesdays.

Monday meetings will be held on 2/3, 2/10, 2/17, and 2/24. Reading begins 1/28.

Tuesday meetings will be held on 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, and 2/25. Reading begins 1/29.

Everyone from the Monday and Tuesday groups will also meet on Zoom as a collective cohort at the end of the challenge, on Monday, March 3rd, from 7-8:30pm EST, to share reflections and next steps.

In-person events:

Anyone who is local to our headquarters region, Wobanadenok (the Abenaki word for the White Mountains of New Hampshire), is encouraged to join us for a group hike to celebrate our completion of the challenge. The Notch Hostel will also be hosting relevant Fireside Chats before and after the challenge: SiS board members Mardi Fuller and Kathy Chau Rohn will each be giving talks on topics related to equity outdoors.

Accessibility:

We care about this challenge being accessible to people’s varied learning styles and physical abilities. If any part of this challenge is inaccessible to you, please let us know and we will help to accommodate you.

• All discussions are to be held in strict confidentiality. Anyone not in the circle is not allowed to passively observe meetings. No recording allowed.
• Each participant remains for the entirety of each meeting with their video camera on.
• Each participant is logged in 5 minutes before meeting time.
• Each participant sets aside a space for the meetings free of external distractions, such as other electronic devices, pets, and household members.
• In the group discussions, each participant speaks about how the readings and reflection questions pertain to themselves personally and their own internalized white supremacy, not that of others. The purpose of this specific challenge is to look inward.
