Inspired by Gabriel García Márquez's short story of the same name, Dr. Melissa Lubecke Sarabia and Steven Aguiló-Arbues create a musical journey from Colombia to Cuba with stops in Mexico, Spain and more. Experience art song newly curated by the Canciones Project, as part of their ongoing mission to share the gorgeous music of South America with a larger audience.
Taking on the role of an unnamed, mystical woman, whose peculiarities and adventures are revealed over the course of the story, Dr. Lubecke Sarabia walks through dreams. Songs are interspersed with the words of Márquez and Pablo Neruda, characters with their own part to play in the woman's journey. These nationally recognized artists tell a story steeped in magical realism, using the language of dreams as a springboard to take you on an exploration of works by Gustavino, Piazzolla and Catán.
