This is a critical meeting for our union. In addition to our usual work and updates, we will be electing tenant leaders to the MCTU 2025-26 Leadership Team.
We will also celebrate our achievements over the past year with our second Annual Awards Ceremony.
We are issuing the following awards:
Tenant Power Award -
This award is issued to a Madison County tenant who has stepped up to the plate, demonstrated leadership, and unleashed tenant power throughout the year. The Tenant Power Award is issued to show our shared appreciation to those who have demonstrated consistent action to grow the powerful movement we need to win homes 4 all. The 2024 recipient of this award was Jayde J.
Behind the Scenes Award -
This award is issued to a Madison County tenant who has taken on essential work that can often feel thankless or overlooked. The Behind the Scenes Award is issued to show our shared appreciation to those who have consistently taken on necessary tasks (like setting up tables, data entry, cleaning toilets, coordinating carpools, supporting child care, preparing food, etc. etc.) to build a powerful organization, our vehicle for organizing.
The 2024 recipient of this award was Wendy M.
"For The Long Haul" Lifetime Achievement Award -
This award is issued to a Madison County tenant who has demonstrated their dedication to take on the good fight for the long haul. Our aim is ambitious. We fight for a day when we have won homes for all, once and for all, in Madison County by working together. We know that won't happen over night. The "For The Long Haul" Lifetime Achievement Award is issued to show our shared appreciation to those who show us what it means to stay the course until we win all that we deserve. The 2024 recipient of this award was Lisa B.
"Won't You Be Our Neighbor" Ally of the Year Award -
This award is issued to a Madison County group or organization who has showed up alongside our union to build powerful alliances and coalitions in support of a vision to win homes for all. We know we will not win alone. The Ally of the Year award is issued to show our shared appreciation to an organization who has stood shoulder-to-shoulder alongside our union to advance shared goals. The 2024 recipient of this award was the UP Initiative of Madison County
Reporter of the Year Award -
This award is issued to the journalist, publication or news outlet that has provided consistent, factual coverage of the housing and economic conditions facing tenants and homeless residents of Madison County. The 2024 recipient of this award was Sierra Marling of the Richmond Register.
AND INTRODUCTING FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR
The "Hell Raiser" Award!
This award is issued to a Madison County tenant who knows what getting into good trouble is all about. Truth-telling, speaking up, courage and bravery in the face of the housing & shelter crisis we all are facing. This award is granted to the tenant who inspires us with their bravery and passion for what we all know is right down in our bones.
We also invite and ask each of you to consider making nominations to the elected MCTU Leadership Team. The Leadership Team works together between monthly member meetings throughout the year to carry the work forward and carry out the activities that members delegate to the Leadership Team. The 2024-25 leadership team includes Margaret Sites, Wendy Mondragon, Dwan Finney, Jayde Jones and Maggie Park. To be eligible for nomination and election to the Leadership Team, you cannot be a landlord. If you are a landlord and you share our vision and mission, we ask you to participate at the "supporters" level instead of the membership and leadership level.
