MCRD San Diego Library Professional Book Club

November’s featured book from the Marine Corps Professional Reading Program is a book, Humility Is the New Smart by Edward Hess and Katherine Ludwig. Library staff will lead an in-depth discussion, plus share tips on how to write high-quality reports of your professional reading.

The virtual event is hosted on MS Teams at 11:00am on November 6th, 2025. Registration is required for the virtual event.

An in-person discussion will take place on the same date at 16:30 at the MCRD Library. Base access is required for the in-person event.

About the Book:

In Humility is the New Smart, Hess and Ludwig offer us a game plan to stay relevant in the upcoming Smart Machine Age. We need to excel at critical, creative, and innovative thinking and at genuinely engaging with others—things machines can’t do well. The key is to change our definition of what it means to be smart. Hess and Ludwig call it being NewSmart. In this extraordinarily timely book, they offer detailed guidance for developing NewSmart attitudes and four critical behaviors that will help us adapt to the new reality.
