I wanted to invite you to the first Mayberry Book Festival to be held at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History on July 19, 2025, from 10 am until 2 pm during the Mayberry Meet Up, where fans and tribute artists come to Mount Airy each year to enjoy fellowship and their interest in The Andy Griffith Show. The authors invited are personal friends of mine who either have a book relating to The Andy Griffith Show or are local to the region around Mount Airy. This event is a fundraiser for the Perry Family Scholarship that I started several years ago to honor my parents after their deaths. We have given $4,000 to a senior in Patrick County, Virginia, where my father was an educator for nearly thirty years. The scholarship will hold three history talks and a reunion of Blue Ridge and Red Bank schools where my father taught and was principal at the Ararat Virginia Ruritan Club.
The book festival will be held on the third floor of the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History at 301 North Main Street in Mount Airy. The fee to set up is $20. A table and two chairs and admission to the museum will be provided. All fees will be donated to the museum or the scholarship. Additional donations are always welcome but not expected. The Mount Airy Museum of Regional History is a Smithsonian quality museum housed on four floors of the Merrit Hardware building at the corner of Main and Oak Streets.
If you are interested, you can send a check made out to the Perry Family Scholarship for $20 for each spot you would like and mail it to Tom Perry P O Box 11, Ararat, VA 24053.
