Mayan Cacao Ceremony with Carlos Balam

Most nights out in Bangkok leave you exactly where you started, only more tired.

On Saturday 10 October, Carlos Balam flies in from the Yucatán to hold a Mayan cacao ceremony, for one night only. The cacao is made the Mayan way, the music is played live on ancestral instruments, and Kane Lorh's icaros carry the night long after the ceremony ends.

Carlos has been holding sacred spaces and bringing traditional and indigenous teachings from the Mayan culture all around the world for the past decade. He keeps a ceremonial house in Playa del Carmen, founded Colectivo Cultura Ancestral, and works with his family to protect Mayan land and support communities across the peninsula. This is a once in a lifetime ceremony.

Alongside Carlos, local talent, healer and entrepreneur Kane Lorh performs ancient indigenous icaros, which will have your heart singing after being opened by the delicious cacao.

The night opens with the Inner Stillness Soundbath, held by Kate of Auralis Sound Healing. Gongs, Himalayan bowls and crystal bowls, played live, so you walk into the ceremony already still. There are only ten places, and they are booked with your ticket. Sound healing guests arrive by 3pm for a 3.30pm start.
