About this Event
The New Haven Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Town of Hamden present the May Week 2024 - Youth Violence Prevention Symposium.
Through workshops, and resource sharing, participants will gain valuable insights into the complexities of gun violence and human trafficking and their impact on our youth.
The symposium will highlight the importance of community resources, support networks, and the role of legislation in protecting and empowering our young population.
Workshops
The Gun Violence workship will provide a platform for young individuals to discuss the intersection of gun violence and mental health, share personal experiences, and engage in constructive dialogue.
The Human Trafficking workshop will focus on the growing issue of child and youth sex trafficking in our communities. The presentation for youth and adults will share the signs to look for if you suspect a child or young person is being exploited, offer tips to stay safe and help avoid becoming a target and provide resources for support.
Our hope is to collaborate in developing a youth led, community driven action plan, where collective ideas and strategies will be shaped into actionable steps to safeguard our youth against violence and exploitation.
This symposium is for parents, young individuals and community members. Let's come together to create a safer, more supportive enironment for our youth.
Note: Mental health professionals will be on hand to help us navigate this important conversation.
