Musicfest News calls The Ain’t Sisters “A legendary must-see.” Described by Holler magazine as "A jolt of energy," their sound is perhaps best summed up by Chat GPT: “The Ain’t Sisters’ music is so eclectic they can play you down the aisle at your wedding and fight your ex at the Waffle House parking lot all in the same night.”Brother Fat was formed to play at a benefit show for the late Count M’Butu, Grammy award-winning percussionist with the Derek Trucks Band. The show, organized by student and close friend Mark Chester, became his memorial musical celebration and was performed by many respected musicians from Count’s past. The name “Brother Fat” was one of His nicknames in his younger years, and was adopted as the band’s moniker.
Brother Fat is a percussion-centric jam band, with a passion for funk and blues that weave in and out of spacey and rhythmic jams. The band plays music from great funk legends like the Meters and the Neville Brothers, and Dr. John. They also cover blues legends like BB King, JJ Cale and Delbert McClinton, and classic jammers like The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers. And with several songwriters in the band, they may surprise you with some tunes you’ve never heard!
Brother Fat members are as follows:
Mark Chester - (Asheville’s QuickChester Band and Col. Bruce Hampton’s Madrid Express) Vocals and percussion
JW Powell - (Asheville’s Mantras and Sanctum Sully) Keys
Joel Forlines - (Natty Lovejoys and Chattanooga’s St. Owsley) Electric guitar and vocals
