Registration: www.tiftonarts.org/potteryIn this hands-on ceramics class, students will learn how to transform simple clay into a one-of-a-kind vase using the coil-building technique. Participants will roll and shape coils, attach them using the score-and-slip method, and form them into a loose bowl shape while exploring how clay moves from a soft, flexible material into a sturdy, functional piece of pottery. Along the way, they’ll also learn glazing basics to finish their creation. This class is a great introduction to foundational clay skills in a relaxed, creative environment.
TIMELINE:
This class includes two sessions. During the first session, participants will create their pottery pieces. The pottery will then dry for several days before undergoing its first kiln firing, followed by a cooling period. Once cooled and ready, participants will return for a second session to glaze their work. After glazing, the pieces will be fired a second time and cooled again over several days to complete the process. Attendance at the glazing session is optional; if a participant is unable to return, their pottery will automatically receive a clear glaze before the final firing.
Once the final firing and cooling are complete, participants will receive an email notification when their finished pottery is ready for pickup. Completed pieces can be collected from the TCA Office at 220 2nd St E.
