The Rio Rancho Astronomical Society will host its general monthly meeting on Friday, May 22nd, at Rainbow Park Observatory located at 301 Southern Blvd. in Rio Rancho (Behind Rainbow Pool).Special guest speaker Kevin Schindler of Lowell Observatory will give a talk titled "Robert Goddard: The Dreamer Who Launched the Space Age." Dr. Robert Goddard is widely considered the father of the space age, and his groundbreaking experiments transformed rocketry from an idea to reality. This program will use historical images, personal writings, and accounts of his pioneering 1926 liquid‑fuel rocket launch, which marked the dawn of modern spaceflight. The presentation also highlights Esther Goddard’s essential role in preserving her husband's legacy and ensuring his contributions continue to inspire future explorers.
The meeting begins at 7:30 PM, and a stargaze will follow, weather permitting.
