Maxime Zecchini - The Left hand

The Left Hand: A Journey Across Five Continents offers an original musical exploration through different cultures and styles, united by compositions written for the left hand alone. From Asia to Europe, via the Americas, Africa and Oceania, this programme reveals the richness and diversity of a unique repertoire comprising nearly a thousand works. Thanks to inventive and ingenious composition, the left hand creates a striking illusion: as you listen, you might think you are hearing two hands playing! Each piece thus unfolds a complete sonic universe, blending lyricism, rhythms and local colours. As a highlight, Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand, in a previously unpublished transcription, illustrates the full expressive power of this singular art form. It reveals how the left hand, through the arrangement of its fingers, its natural flexibility and the depth of its low register, can single-handedly replace an entire orchestra, unveiling the richness and power of an extraordinary art form.
Maxime Zecchini is a French pianist recognised as one of the world’s few specialists in the repertoire for the left hand alone. A prize-winner at numerous international competitions, he trained at the highly renowned Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and subsequently at the Accademia di Imola in Italy. He pursues a career as a soloist that has taken him to perform in over 80 countries, in prestigious venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris and Carnegie Hall in New York. Passionate about this unique repertoire, he works actively to rediscover and enrich it through concerts, recordings and research. He is the first pianist in the world to have recorded a 10-volume discographic anthology dedicated to these works.
His playing combines virtuosity, poetic sensibility and artistic commitment.
