Whether on archaeological digs or translating medieval poetry, the past has always been a north star for banjoist and songwriter Max Wareham. "It's the process of digging through the past, musing on the lived experience of those no longer with us, that inspires me." Wareham, who wrote a book on forgotten banjo legend Rudy Lyle, is also a member of the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band and was featured on the Grammy-nominated album “Calling You From My Mountain.”
"It's very meaningful to me to be returning to the Parlor Room. This stage was home to me for many years as I was learning my craft. I've spent the last several years touring nationally with Peter and leading my own band, the National Bluegrass Team--I can't wait to bring back some of what I've learned out there on the road back to my community in Western MA."
Max released his debut album "Daggomit!" in early 2025. The album features Chris Eldridge (of the Punch Brothers) and David Grier on guitar, Laura Orshaw (formerly of the Po' Ramblin' Boys) on fiddle, Chris Henry on mandolin, Mike Bub on bass, Larry Atamanuik on snare drum, and guest singer and producer Peter Rowan. Recorded by multi-Grammy winning engineer Sean Sullivan, Wareham’s commitment to early innovators of the instrument shines on this record of soulful original songs, highlighted by the hard-driving chemistry of Nashville’s preeminent bluegrass stars.
Wareham's second album as a leader is due out early June, 2026.
