On Maundy Thursday, Jesus stooped down to wash the disciples’ feet. Thus he showed that he “came not to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:28). Jesus follows up this act of service with a new commandment for us: we are to serve one another as Christ has served us, to love one another as Christ has loved us.
