Bucyrus Little Theatre is excited to announce open auditions for its 2026 summer youth production of Roald Dahl's Matilda JR. The Musical, a high-energy, empowering adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved classic. Directed by Cindy Light, this joyous celebration of childhood rebellion, imagination, and girl power will take the stage July 9-12, 2026.Auditions are open to children and youth ages 8-17 and will be held from 6-8 p.m. on:

No prior experience is required. Auditioners will learn a portion of a song from the show, be taught a dance combination, and read from the script. This is a fantastic opportunity for young performers to showcase their talents in singing, dancing, and acting.
Roald Dahl's Matilda JR. The Musical features book by Dennis Kelly, music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, and orchestrations and additional music by Chris Nightingale. Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), all authorized performance materials are supplied by MTI.
The story follows Matilda Wormwood, a brilliant, resilient, and kind young girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and even special powers. Unloved by her cruel, neglectful parents, Matilda finds solace in books and impresses her kind teacher, Miss Honey. But school life is ruled by the tyrannical headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who despises children and invents outrageous punishments. With courage, cleverness, and the support of her fellow students (the "revolting children") Matilda stands up to the grown-ups and inspires everyone around her.
Packed with catchy songs, high-energy dance numbers, and heartfelt moments, Matilda JR. is a thrilling ode to the power of imagination and the triumph of young heroes over adversity. Audiences of all ages will cheer for Matilda and her friends as they teach the adults a lesson in this witty, uplifting musical.
